مَا كَانَ مُحَمَّدٌ أَبَا أَحَدٍ مِنْ رِجَالِكُمْ وَلَكِنْ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ وَخَاتَمَ النَّبِيِّينَ

“Muhammad is not the father of any of your men, but he is the Messenger of Allah and the Last of the prophets” (Surah Ahzab, 33\40)

 

 

 14. Translate this following hadith-e- shareef into English:

"لَيْسَ مِنَّا مَنْ لَمْ يَرْحَمْ صَغِيرَنَا وَ لَمْ يُوَقِّرْ كَبِيرَناَ"

Answer: “Those who do not show mercy to the young among us and those who do not respect to the old among us are not from us.”

 

15. When and against which community or tribe did Rasulullahpbuh lead the Tabuk expedition?

The expedition of Tabuk is alleged to have taken place in the 9th year of the Muslim calendar against Byzantines.

THIRD PART: SHORT ESSAY QUESTIONS

 

21. (a) Write an account of the major contributions made to Islam by Abu Bakr:

(i) during the Prophet’s lifetime, and (ii) during his caliphate.                                                                                             

(b) Explain why he was known as the Honest One (al-Siddiq), and the Saviour of Islam.

 

Answer:

Your essay should include these following important points:

a) (i) during the Prophet’s lifetime;

• He was the Prophet’s friend from childhood.

• He was one of the first to accept Islam.

• He brought others to accept Islam.

• He remained loyal to the Prophet at all times, good and bad.

• He expressed belief in the Prophet’s Night Journey.

• He bought slaves who were Muslim and freed them.

• He accompanied the Prophet on the hijra.

• He gave his daughter `A’isha to be the Prophet’s wife.

• He made a financial contribution to the expedition to Tabuk.

(ii) during his caliphate.

• He steadied the mourning community after the Prophet’s death.

• He continued the Prophet’s intention to send expeditions to the north.

• He fought against the tribes who withheld zakat.

• He fought against the false prophets.

• These were Musaylima, Tulayha, Aswad al-Ansi and Sajjah.

• He arranged to have the first collection of the Qur’an made.

 

b) He was known as al-Siddiq, and the Saviour of Islam, because:

 

• He was given the title of al-Siddiq after he declared without hesitation that he believed

the Prophet had been taken to Jerusalem on the Night Journey.

• It also suits his conduct of showing complete loyalty towards Muhammad.

• He was acknowledged as the Saviour of Islam because of his efforts to keep the

community united, to resist the threat from tribes withdrawing from Islam, and to

destroy the false prophets. [1 mark, but 2 marks for all of these points]

 

22. Comment on the main teachings contained in Surah al-Ma’un.

 

Answer:

Your essay should include these following important points:

• Islam teaches about a just and caring society.

• It uses the example of hypocrites who do good only to appear to be religious.

• They fail in the major duties of Islam, especially the duty of caring for others.

• Muslims should be aware that their actions must be based on sincere belief.

• Ferformance of Namaaz should be qualified-perfect enough to get Allah’s appreciation. 

 

23. Translate Surah al-Ikhlas into English and comment on the main teachings contained in it. 

 

Answer:

Surah Al-Ikhlas:

Say: He, Allah, is Only One.
Allah is He on Whom all depend.

He begets not, nor is He begotten. (He is not the father of any son or daughter.)

And there is none comparable unto Him. (None is like Him, He is matchless)

 

Your essay should include these following important points:

 • The oneness of Allah is central to the Qur’an-e- Majeed.

• It is also fundamental to Islam.

• Allah is Unique in His person, attributes and actions and entirely Self-Subsistent;

• Allah’s role in the universe should not be forgotten. All of the creatures depend on Him, He does not depend anything/anyone.

• He is not physically related to children or parents.

• He cannot be compared with other beings.

• We are limited ones but Allah is not restricted with any limitations. Allah’s nature is beyond our imagination because limited ones can not fully comprehend the Infinite One.

 

 

 

24.                                 Translate this following hadith-e- shareef into English:

 وما اجْتَمَعَ قوْمٌ فِي بيْتٍ منْ بُيُوتِ اللَّه تعالَى ، يتْلُون كِتَابَ اللَّه ، ويَتَدارسُونهُ بيْنَهُمْ إلاَّ نَزَلَتْ عليهم السَّكِينةُ ، وغَشِيَتْهُمُ الرَّحْمةُ ، وحفَّتْهُمُ الملائكَةُ ، وذكَرهُمُ اللَّه فيمَنْ عنده

 

Answer:

“Whenever a groub people assemble in one of the houses of Allah, reciting the Book of Allah, learning and getting lessons of it from each other, there descends upon them the tranquility, and mercy covers them, the angels flock around them, and Allah mentions them in the presence of those near Him.”

 

 

25. Comment on the main teaching of the following Hadith-e- Shareef about what  Muslims should believe and how they should act.لاَ يُؤْمِنُ أَحَدُكُمْ حَتَّى يُحِبَّ لأَخِيهِ مَا يُحِبُّ لِنَفْسِهِ

 

Answer:

Your essay should include these following important points:

 

[Not one of you believes until he desires for his brother what he desires for himself.]

• This hadith teaches us one of the important qualifications of the perfect belief.

• Concern for the welfare of others is a constituent part of faith.

• The spirit of I’sar, the sense of altruism is a really important qualification of those Muslims who get the perfect belief.

• Care for others is a sign of sincere belief; without it belief is not sincere.
