I FELT PROUD OF THESE SCHOOLS Brigadier General (R) Atilla Başaran, a fellow member of the military and a classmate to His Excellency General Pervez Musharraf, since when they were military officers at the Quetta Staff College back in 1970s, visited Pak Turk Schools in Islamabad. Brig Gen. (R) Başaran visited Pakistan as the Senior Member Council of Ankara Greater City Municipality with a delegation exclusively visited Pakistan to render relief work in the wake of the 8 October Pakistan Earthquake. The delegation also comprised Mr Nuri Gündoğan, Senior Director for Electricity, Gas and Transportation, Greater City Municipality of Ankara and Mr Feyzullah Arıtman, Member Council of Ankara Greater City Municipality.
After visiting the earthquake-affected regions with a helicopter assigned by the Pakistan Army, the Turkish delegation visited His Excellency General Pervez Musharraf at his Camp Office in Rawalpindi. After calling on His Excellency the President of Pakistan, the delegation visited the Islamabad Pak Turk Schools. Gracing the exclusive welcome programme in their honour, Brig Gen (R) Atilla Başaran spoke on behalf of the delegation: “We have been deeply moved by the agony suffered by our brothers and sisters in the disaster zone. Having seen the flowers of hope for the future in the shape of these innocent children in Islamabad, we have been moved again. Having shed the tears of pain in Muzaffarabad, we have shed the tears of thankfulness and bliss in Islamabad in this school function. We are, and especially I am, proud of the presence of Turkish schools in Pakistan. They are really doing a great job in material and educational reconstruction of Pakistan.” Mr İsmail Nazlı, Chairman – Country Representative Pak Turk ICEF briefed the delegation on the Foundation’s educational and humanitarian works in Pakistan. Mr. Nazlı added, “I request the respected members of the delegation to know that their kind visit contributed to our tireless efforts in terms of augmenting our motivation and pursuit for further success.” |
